Lesson Objectives

At the end of this lesson, students will be able to: take real world problems presented in words, tables, or graphs and identify Intercept, rate of change, and the equation of the line.

Student Target

“I can identify Intercept, Rate of Change, and Equation of a line when presented with Words, Table, Graph, Equation”

CCR Focus Standards
Algebra and Functions - Level D
  • Interpret the equation y = mx + b as defining a linear function, whose graph is a straight line; give examples of functions that are not linear. For example, the function A = s^2 giving the area of a square as a function of its side length is not linear because its graph contains the points (1,1), (2,4) and (3,9), which are not on a straight line.

Supporting Standards
Standards for Mathematical Practice
  • Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. (MP.1)

  • Use appropriate tools strategically. (MP.5)

  • Look for and make use of structure. (MP.7)

KYAE Employability Standards
  • E.1 Effectively contribute to a team through cooperation, leadership, and giving and accepting critical feedback to work toward a common goal.

  • E.7 Accurately analyze information and respond appropriately.

  • E.8 Interact with others in a professional manner.
