Lesson Purpose

The ability to recognize the effects of point of view and to locate evidence in written materials will help students to form decisions based upon facts and careful inferences rather than unsubstantiated opinions. Reading objectively will ultimately affect the strength of their own speaking and writing abilities.

Lesson Objectives

At the end of this lesson, students will be able to cite evidence to support explicit understanding and to make logical inferences, decide upon the influence of author’s point of view upon the text, compare multiple texts on the same topic, and summarize key points.

“I can summarize texts about the same topic that are from different points of view and cite supporting evidence in a graphic organizer and a written paragraph.”
