Career Clusters 2017-01-19T19:50:18-05:00

There are 16 career clusters leading to various career pathways. Instructors can incorporate these clusters into curriculum design and instruction. Adult education services will include workforce preparation activities and training for specific occupations; this will allow students to achieve their educational and career goals. Lesson Title Whole Number Operations
Unit Title Math Overview for Healthcare
NRS Level Level 2
Length of Lesson 60 minutes
Lesson Purpose

This purpose of this lesson is for students to practice fluency in the four operations, as it is important to have accuracy, speed, and understanding of numbers when working in the health field. This will also be an opportunity for instructors to identify and address any misconceptions students may have in the foundational operations.

Lesson Objectives

At the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Model the four operations either with manipulatives or drawings
  • Perform the four operations fluently
Student Target

“I can fluently add, subtract, divide, and multiply whole numbers.”

CCR Focus Standards
Number and Ratios - Level B
  • Add and subtract within 1000, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method. Understand that in adding or subtracting three- digit numbers, one adds or subtracts hundreds and hundreds, tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose or decompose tens or hundreds.

  • Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.

Number and Ratios - Level C
  • Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

  • Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
