Lesson Purpose

Adult education students need to see testimonials from other adult education students who have completed the necessary educational requirements in order to obtain their desired jobs. These testimonials motivate and inspire students to achieve their own educational and career related goals. This lesson encourages students to consider the trade job of power lineman. This lesson also develops the soft skill of active listening, which should be helpful during a job interview and during on-the-job interaction with others.

Lesson Objectives

At the end of this lesson, students will be able to listen closely in order to recall information accurately. Students will watch the instructor model listening and recording skills from one testimonial, work with a partner to read an online article and summarize the key points, work with a partner to listen and record information from the second testimonial, and listen and record independently as they interview a peer about his/her education experiences and career goals. Some students will present their interviews to the class.
