Adult education services will include workforce preparation activities and training for specific occupations; this will allow students to achieve their educational and career goals. Lesson Purpose

The purpose of this lesson is for students to be able to look for and use structure and also to proficiently work with algebraic algorithms and formulas in real world situations, so that they can solve problems.

Lesson Objectives

At the end of this lesson students will be able to use structure to rewrite formulas and solve for variables in real-life personal and professional situations.

Student Target

I can find structure in mathematics and rearrange literal equations in order to solve problems.

Use the structure of an expression to identify ways to rewrite it. For example, see x^4 – y^4 as (x^2)^2 – (y^2^2, thus recognizing it as a difference of squares that can be factored as (x^2 – y^2)(x^2 + y^2). [Also see 7.EE.2]
