There are 16 career clusters leading to various career pathways. Instructors can incorporate these clusters into curriculum design and instruction. Adult education services will include workforce preparation activities and training for specific occupations; this will allow students to achieve their educational and career goals. Lesson Objectives

At the end of this lesson students will be able to use structure to rewrite formulas and solve for variables in real-life personal and professional situations.

I can find structure in mathematics and rearrange literal equations in order to solve problems.

  • Use the structure of an expression to identify ways to rewrite it. For example, see x^4 – y^4 as (x^2)^2 – (y^2^2, thus recognizing it as a difference of squares that can be factored as (x^2 – y^2)(x^2 + y^2). [Also see 7.EE.2]

Supporting Standards
  • Rearrange formulas to highlight a quantity of interest, using the same reasoning as in solving equations. For example, rearrange Ohm’s law V = IR to highlight resistance R. )* [Also see 7.EE.2 and F.IF.8]
