Lesson PurposeThe purpose of this lesson is to expand the knowledge of using the volume formulas. Students will use volume formulas to calculate volume of prisms and pyramids as well as calculate missing dimensions. To be able to use and explain formulas in order to solve problems is a major work of level E Geometry. Students will use many previously learned skills in this lesson in order to calculate volume and calculate the missing dimensions when given volume. Students will need to have an understanding of substitution and solving equations for a variable. Students will also need to be familiar with converting units of measure. During this lesson, students will work through problems involving filling a swimming pool and converting attic space into a finished room. These activities will allow students to see how this knowledge could be a benefit in their own lives outside of the classroom. |
